My plan was to have mind control involved in the story somehow; I would have had Erika turn against her father at a crucial point in the last battle. It would have made everything worse for the heroes. There are a couple of reasons this would not work- one of which can’t be explained due to spoilers.
Now, knowing this, how could a Feral werewolf speak to a girl in her language and order her around? It wouldn’t be able to. Besides, I hadn’t revealed those mind games earlier in the story. Having an, “Oh look, the bad guy can do this now!” is never a good idea.
Here’s an example with Mackenzie.
Mackenzie looked Nelson in the eye. He broke the man’s mental barrier and entered a command without actually speaking. “LOWER THE GUN. WHEN I AM THROUGH HE WILL FEEL NO PAIN. HE WILL NOT SLIP INTO DEATH. BOTH OF YOU WILL TAKE A BREAK AND GO HAVE A HEARTY BREAKFAST WITH PROTEIN.”
Nelson twitched. He slowly re-holstered his weapon. Mackenzie was satisfied with his work and lowered his head again. Dangerfield continued to struggle and scream against the vampire’s grip. When he bit down into the victim’s neck, what they felt correlated with his feelings toward the victim. If it was a woman he would release pheromones to make it a pleasurable experience for her. For men it was a simple neutral component. They wouldn’t feel anything. If he hated the victim, the anger would release a non-lethal neurotoxin as powerful as the stings of a thousand wasps.
